The Bible has a ton of verses about social skills and relationships. Some of them may even be the opposite of what you think is best. I am going to explore some of these verses in a few of my upcoming posts. Feel free to disagree.
Bible Inspired Mingle Tip: Be Humble
A lot of people seem to think that bragging about themselves makes them look better, cooler, stronger, etc. The opposite of this is actually true; bragging makes you look like a chump.
There is nothing wrong with having confidence in yourself, but telling people how wonderful you are makes you look desperate. It's a major turn off. Don't get too big for your britches. Let your "greatness" speak for itself. Being humble is not always easy to do, I know. I sometimes have to remember to not overdo my "swagger" myself.
The Bible uses some pretty serious language about this subject, saying that "God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble" (Colossians 3:12). Wow! This is not just a casual comment! If you are not humble, God opposes you. Yikes. I don't think that is a position that I want to be in.
Let someone else praise you, and not your own mouth; an outsider, and not your own lips.
~ Proverbs 27:2
Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.
~ Colossians 3:12
