So Apparently my list of 101 Mingle Tips has not solved all of the dating and social skills problems in the world. There are still a lot of lonely, poorly mannered, and socially uncomfortable people out there. So here I am. Back with more tips for you.
I have decided to give updates and new information on each of my original 101 Tips For Social Success With Class.
You can find the updates in blue italics at the end of the original post at the bottom of this page. Happy mingling!
There are many reasons why people choose to not be truthful. When we are in social situations, lying will almost always come back to make us look bad. This may not happen immediately, but we can count on it happening eventually. This brings me to my tip for today:
MINGLE TIP #22: DON'T LIE
My advice for today is similar to Tip #18-Do What You Say You Are Going To Do. The difference between the two is that people can usually come up with a justification for lying much easier than simply not being true to their word. The goal for lying is almost always to either help the person lying or the person being lied to.
(1) We will always pay a price for lying. Even if we are don't care about avoiding lying for the sake of having good character, we should at least be concerned about the price we will pay for it. Being caught in a lie can often be a strong enough reason for a person to end a relationship or a potential one, even if our intentions were good.
(2) In situations where telling the truth may be uncomfortable, we should do our best to be as tactful as possible. In these cases it may even be best to try to do something to completely avoid the situation. Whatever happens, though, we should try our best to be civilized and not tell lies just to avoid dealing with reality.
UPDATE: (3) Lying is exhausting. Once you start lying, you are then forced to tell other lies to keep the original one going. That is hard to keep going! The more lies you have to tell, the harder the fall is going to be when you get caught. We are better off just being truthful and letting the chips fall where they may.
