These days it seems like a lot of people are afraid to connect with others, even in the smallest ways. I guess they are either scared, unsure of themselves or just simply uncomfortable in social situations. Some will avoid contact with other people like the plague. It doesn't have to be this way. This brings me to my tip for today:
MINGLE TIP #11: MAKE EYE CONTACT WITH EVERYONE
Making eye contact with everyone is a good way to decide who may be open to making a connection with you. If your eye contact gets a good reaction, the door may be open to approach and talk to someone. Even if it doesn't get that far, making good eye contact is a good way to have a positive impact on people.
Here are some thoughts:
(1) Don't stare. A second or two of eye contact is plenty. Don't try to lock eyes or stare to try to show strangers that you are madly in love with them. The goal is not to win someone over with dramatic eye contact, only to show a little interest.
(2) Don't be a zombie. When you start to get in the habit of trying to make eye contact with strangers, you will notice that some of them almost get into a zombie-like state when they feel like eye contact may be coming. They get a glazed look on their face and look straight ahead, as if they will melt and die if their eyes meet with someone else's. Don't be one of these people. Get into a casual mindset and eye contact will not be so scary. Good grief.
(3) Don't keep your attention glued to your phone when you are walking. This one is relatively new in the context of the history of the world, but it is quickly becoming the most used mingle avoidance trick around. Lame. Get your attention off of your internet social circle and make yourself available to interact with the people around you. Not to mention that you might run into a post.
