Some people complain so much that it seems like they go out of their way to look for reasons to do it. It doesn't matter how good a situation is, they will find something to gripe about. This brings me to my tip for today:
MINGLE TIP #23: DON'T BE A COMPLAINER
Here are some thoughts:
(1) Complaining is unattractive. Plain and simple. Don't make the world and everyone in it your personal therapy session. Social situations are definitely not the time to be complaining.
(2) Everyone complains a little every now and then. I'm not saying that complaining is a crime. If you are privately talking to your spouse or a close friend and you have something serious going on in your life, then complaining may be okay. But strangers and acquaintances in social situations probably don't want to hear it.
(3) Be aware of the amount of complaining that you are doing. If you don't care about annoying people or being alone, then feel free to complain away. Nobody is stopping you. But, if you are interested in improving your social skills and being a generally likable person, then you might want to try to be aware of how much complaining you are doing. Too much of it will run people off.
People will usually like being around you if you are fun, positive, interesting, etc. Complaints have a way of sucking all of the positive energy away. If you are having trouble getting along with people and wondering why, you might want to take a look at yourself and see if you are doing a lot of complaining. It may be the one thing holding you back.
