Heavy drinking is one of the biggest enemies around for people who want to mingle in a classy way. Whether it is you are the people around you who are doing it, excessive drinking is a recipe for disaster. I am not here to judge you if heavy drinking is your thing, but I do have some reasons for avoiding it if you want to mingle in a classy way. This brings me to my mingle tip for today:
MINGLE TIP #25: AVOID PEOPLE WHO ARE DRINKING HEAVILY
Reasons to avoid people who are drinking heavily:
(1) People do things they wouldn't normally do when they drink heavily. This is why people who are looking for a one night stand go to the the places where the heavy drinkers are. The classy mingler would rather have people thinking clearly when they are deciding if they like him. Also, there are some people who will even cross the line of crazy when they are drinking and do terrible and/or dangerous things that they wouldn't normally do sober.
(2) People don't always remember everything when they drink heavily. So you have been your best, most charming self, and you get somebody's phone number. Great job! Too bad they don't remember it.
(3) Drunk guys get angry easily. I already talked about this in my recent blog about mingling in the big city (On location-Vegas). It doesn't take much to make a drunk guy get ready to fight. Avoid this situation if at all possible.
(4) People who are drinking heavily don't dance well. These people may think they dance better when they have been drinking, but in reality they are just more willing. As a person who likes to get out and cut a rug every now and then, I'd rather not be holding the other person up.
Note: I am not suggesting that you do this all the time necessarily, but if you are interested in testing your mingling skills, try not drinking at all when you go out. See if you can be successful without the "liquid courage." A truly skilled mingler doesn't need any help.
